INFO:The Merlion [simplified Chinese: 鱼尾狮; pinyin: Yúwěishī; Tamil: கடல்சிங்கம்] is an imaginary creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. Its name combines "mer" meaning the sea and "lion". The fish body comes from Singapore's ancient name back when it was a fishing village — Temasek — meaning "sea town" in Javanese. The lion head represents Singapore's original name — Singapura — meaning "lion city" in Sanskrit and Malay.

The original Merlion statue used to stand at the mouth of the Singapore River, at the tip of the current The Fullerton Waterboat House Garden with Anderson Bridge as its background. The completion of the Esplanade Bridge, in 1997, blocked the views of the Merlion from the Marina Bay waterfront. By then, the original Merlion location was also no longer the entrance of Singapore River. So, in 2002, the statue and its cub were relocated 120 metres to the current Merlion Park that fronts Marina Bay where it stands on a newly-reclaimed promontory in front of The Fullerton Hotel.

There are three renditions of the Merlion; one seen here at the Merlion Park, one in Sentosa used for laser lightshows and finally one located at the peak of Mount Faber.

This is a great image, It really smacks of a postcard. The exposure seems perfect to me, with the water, the sky (clouds) and the people. You seem to have got the perfect balance between them all. So its a great technique. Im not to sure about the weather balance though, The Merlion seems to be an odd shade of yellow. I like how much you have in the image, but the composition over all seems to be a little crowded. Not much you could do about that, other than a wider lens. The only other gripe i have with this is the border, i would lose the white, and make it all even. (the width the same as the height so the image sits flush)

Overall, I love it :D

Critique (because I'm not a paying member) :

Until I read your description I thought the shot was of the buildings, simply due to the fact that the contrast between the buildings and the sky create a "weight" to which my eye tends to wander towards.
I think the shot over all, is truly beautiful, as all your shots are, but wish that the Merlion commanded more of the composition, and that the detail of the scales were a little more clear.

I agree with you, the statue needs a little more detail and
also the highlights at its base are blown. Although I intended
to jostle for a better angle down left of the frame, it was a
tad crowded that evening.

Though in this frame I purposefully added them to the scene,
I was sorely aggrevated by them seemingly oblivious to the fact
they walked right into my exposures.

My sincerest gratitude for the critique, really appreciate the feedback.
And thank you again for the continued support.

No doubt, art (and life for that matter) is about little more than sharing our insights and the proverbial love.
Keep up the good work!
